Abstract: This study is a historical survey of Chiro Woreda (District) from 1900 to 1991. The purpose of the study is to construct the local history of the people of Chiro Woreda from 1900-1991.For this study historical research method is utilized. The main three steps of in Historical ResearchMethod werefollowed: Collection of data by considering documents and other remains, primary and secondary sources:Criticism of data collected including the process of external criticism and internal criticism; and the presentation of the facts by considering issues of organization and interpretation. Accordingly, the writing of history of Chiro Woreda is based on data collected from different sources found in different areas. Archival materials found in Harar (at two centers); in Addis Ababa (three centers); and in Chiro and Dire Dawa. Government published reports, unpublished and published theses; published primary sources like autobiography are used. Oral information with interview is also utilized.The data from variegated sources are collected in different various ways. All data gathered are organized and grouped into their categories. These data together with oral information are carefully arranged and crosschecked with the already produced materials. Then the data are analyzed, interpreted and narrated thematically and chronologically. It is in this way that the history of Chiro Woreda from early 20th century to the last decade of 20th century is constructed.
